TELL SCOTT MORRISON: It's time to change Aged Care

Change Aged Care campaign

We have all seen the terrible impact of short-staffing, heavy workloads and insecure jobs on the care and safety of older Australians.

Enough is enough.

Sign this petition and tell Scott Morrison: it’s time to Change Aged Care.

WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT:

Older Australians are not being kept safe in aged care.

The Aged Care Royal Commission, released on Monday, found older Australians’ care has been neglected in a system in crisis.

But the Royal Commission’s recommendations threaten to leave older Australians without the quality care they desperately need.

An incremental approach to increasing care time – lifting care time from current levels by a miserly 20 minutes – means older Australians will still miss out on the quality care needed.

The lack of a clear recommendation on how the reforms should be financed also means older Australians will be hostage to political solutions rather than good policy.

The response from the Federal Government so far is a Scott Morrison sales job with the heavy lifting pushed off to the Federal Budget.

The Morrison Government must meet its responsibility to treat older Australians with dignity and respect.

Older Australians need a guaranteed amount of care time that is legally enforceable and meets their need for quality care.

United Workers Union aged care member Ehying says:

“We feel undervalued, we do this because we care – we deserve better.

“We need more respect for aged care workers, to give quality of time and quality of care.

“Residents deserve better, to live happily and have a better life.”
