Wage theft has become the ‘new normal’ in many of the industries UWU represents, highlighting a significant problem in the Australian economy.
Underpayment is rife across a diverse range of industries including food and beverage production, early childhood education, security, horticulture and supermarket supply chains, and cleaning.
Every year, thousands of the lowest paid workers in the country experience wage theft. For many, it can mean the difference between getting by and experiencing financial hardship. The workers that UWU represents are particularly vulnerable to wage theft.
