ISSUES WE FIGHT FOR
Secure Jobs
Every worker deserves a job they can count on. Every day, the United Workers Union is organising and fighting for secure and reliable work.
Closing Loopholes, securing futures
Each of us deserves a reliable income with reliable hours to be able to plan our lives. Thanks to workers together with unions, the Closing Loopholes and Secure Jobs Better Pay Act legislated stronger protections and better outcomes for workers’ job security.
WHAT WE’VE WON
Thanks to workers together with unions, the Closing Loopholes Act and Secure Jobs Better Pay Act legislated stronger protections and better outcomes for workers’ job security.
- Causals can convert to permanent work.
If workers prefer to remain in casual employment, their rights are protected. - Multiemployer Bargaining
Lifts wages and strengthens the better off overall test, making sure workers are not worse off under new agreements - Precarious work – minimizing the exploitative practices that undermines workers’ job security and pay.
- Same job, same pay – labour hire workers now receive the same pay & conditions as directly employed workers.
- Fixed Term Contracts – now limited to two years to help end over casualisation and insecure contracts
- Minimum standards for gig workers
- The right to disconnect – protecting work life balance, creating a better and more secure work life balance.
These are huge wins for working people, and it’s working. Across Australia, recent data shows that more working people are moving from casual and part time work into full time and more secure employment with stronger protections and better wages.
Everyone deserves a job they can count on, and it’s clear, being a part of a union means secure jobs, better pay and stronger protections.
