Duties undertaken by school cleaners can include, but are not limited to:

  • Unlock gates & storage room 
  • Collect syringes, needles & sharps  
  • Collect litter from indoor & outdoor areas 
  • Empty rubbish, clean bins and replace liners 
  • Wipe desks and bench tops 
  • Wipe soft furnishings 
  • Wipe telephones, cabinets, lockers 
  • Wipe door & window frames, air vents 
  • Wipe light switches, door jambs, wall surfaces 
  • Polish all internal glass doors/windows 
  • Wipe down cabinets and noticeboards 
  • Wipe ceiling fans 
  • Clean all windows & louvres 
  • Clean skirting boards, partitions, doors and light fittings 
  • Dust all surfaces including air conditioning ducting 
  • Dust computers, screens, fax machines & printers 
  • Dust blinds 
  • Sweep all floors 
  • Remove scuff markings from floors 
  • Mop and buff floorboards 
  • Spot clean stains on carpets 
  • Vacuum all carpets including under furniture 
  • Scrub sealed floors & re-coat with sealer 
  • Remove graffiti and wall markings 
  • Scrub drinking fountains 
  • Scrub sinks, taps, shower roses & soap holders 
  • Scrub toilet bowls & urinal surfaces  
  • Clean & disinfect toilet pans, seats, cisterns, pipes and fittings 
  • Remove urinal roses, scrub clean & replace 
  • Mop bathroom and shower floors 
  • Wipe tiled wall surfaces in toilets, showers & bathrooms 
  • Replenish paper towels, soap & toilet tissue 
  • Wipe down canteen serving areas, tables & seating 
  • Sweep/hose all paved surfaces 
  • Remove bird droppings from paved areas 
  • Clean cobwebs & birds’ nests from covered structures 
  • Leaf blowing 
  • Clean outdoor drains and grates 
  • Clean equipment & return to storage room
