ISSUES WE FIGHT FOR
Gender Equity is union business
Union women have joined forces and fought together for better protections, higher pay and stronger rights that recognise our value, expertise and worth at work, in the home and in the community.
What union women have achieved
Union women have a long history in Australia and around the world. Organising and fighting for equal pay, equal value and fighting against discrimination against women workers from all walks of life.
UWU is at the forefront of the union movement in fighting to close the gender pay gap and against the undervaluation of women’s participation in the workforce.
WHAT WE’VE ACHIEVED
All workers benefit from the recent wins union women have been fighting for, and won in recent years, including:
- Paid parental leave entitlements and Gov paid super on parental leave
- Paid family and domestic violence leave
- Paid personal carers leave
- Free early education for preschool children
- Multi-employer bargaining – This is a huge win for feminized industries like ECEC and the public sector
- Flexible working arrangements
- Protections from sexual harassment and discrimination
- Pay transparency – outlawing pay secrecy clauses
- Mandatory gender pay-gap reporting
These achievements showcase the power of union women,
together and united are improving the living and working standards for all workers.
