Earlier this month educators across the country put the Federal Government on notice: give educators some certainty on wages, or educators would close the doors on the 8th of March.

Educators have now finally been heard.

At the latest Multi Employer Bargaining meeting on Friday 23rd February, significant progress was made on the Federal Government funding a wage increase. Now that the Government has come to the table, educators have decided to postpone closing centres across the country but haven’t ruled out taking action if progress is too slow.

Quotes attributable to Helen Gibbons, Early Education Director, United Workers Union:

“Educators have been negotiating for a real wage rise since last year.

“Now that the Federal Government is listening, educators are giving the Government one last chance to deliver a real wage increase for the sector.

“That’s why last night, United Workers Union delegates voted to postpone their nationwide action.

“If the Government response takes too long, educators are ready and willing to stop centres across every state and territory until they get the payrise they deserve.

“Everyone knows that without educators, Australia would stop. It’s time to set a new wage standard in the sector.”
