REAL ACCOUNTABILITY IS HERE with
Aged Care watch
The Purpose of Aged Care Watch

Aged Care Watch is a tool for aged care workers, residents, and their families to report what’s really happening in residential aged care facilities across Australia.
Since its launch, Aged Care Watch has highlighted the impact of deliberate understaffing by providers on residents, nurses, and carers. These reports have helped bring about important changes in aged care, such as mandatory minimum care times, 24/7 Registered Nurse (RN) coverage, and significant wage increases for workers.
However, many aged care providers are still failing to meet the required staffing levels. Instead of hiring more nurses and carers, some private providers are misrepresenting their care minute figures to boost their own profits. This leaves vulnerable elderly Australians with too few staff to deliver the quality care they need.
By regularly reporting on Aged Care Watch, you are helping to hold providers accountable, support the aged care regulator in taking action, and demand the quality care that every elderly Australian deserves.
Hold Aged Care Providers Accountable!
Aged Care Watch has been upgraded! Now, you can expose false claims and bad practices while taking real steps to hold providers accountable.

Did you know? 54% of aged care facilities aren’t meeting the required care minutes. The government legislated 215 minutes of care per resident per day, but instead of improving care, many providers have changed rosters, duties, and roles—piling more work onto carers without real improvements in staffing.
With the new Safe Staffing Report on Aged Care Watch, you can report what’s actually happening in your facility.
What can you report?
Daily safe staffing levels and how they impact care quality.
Inflated or manipulated care time minutes.
Non-direct care workers doing direct care tasks.
Unfilled rosters, skipped breaks, or staff working beyond their roles.
Every three months, your reports will be compared with the official public reports from providers—creating clear proof of what’s REALLY happening. This evidence can push the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission to act and improve conditions.

KEEP WAGES TRANSPARENT
Wages in aged care aren’t always fair, with workers in the same roles often earning different rates. By anonymously reporting your pay, you help expose these gaps and push for better, more consistent wages.
Since 2022, employers can’t enforce pay secrecy, so workers have the right to discuss and compare wages. Transparency helps set fair pay standards and ensures aged care workers are valued and properly compensated.
Wage theft is also a problem, with some employers failing to pass on the full pay rise from the recent Work Value Case. Making wages public holds providers accountable and ensures every worker gets their full pay.
Make a report today to expose wage gaps, push for fair pay, and ensure everyone gets what they’re owed.

RAISE AWARENESS
Through the Aged Care Story Report, workers, residents, and family members can share their experiences and reveal what’s really happening inside aged care facilities.
These firsthand accounts highlight the impact on care quality and expose systemic problems that often go unnoticed and unmeasured.
Your story provides valuable insight into the experiences of workers and residents, creating a clearer picture of the issues in the sector.
By speaking out, you help shine a light on the truth and drive the push for better care and conditions.

Your privacy and security
It’s important that you can share your experience with confidence. Every report published is strictly anonymous in order to protect the privacy of aged care workers and residents. The names of the facilities are included in reports, however the exact timing of incidents and unfilled shifts is not recorded or made public.
Personal information will never be published or shared outside of the campaign to Change Aged Care.
Individual story reports are moderated and any identifying or confidential information is removed before the report is published.
WE KNOW SPEAKING OUT WORKS!
Aged Care Watch was launched by United Workers Union in 2021 and has since gathered over 11,000 reports from hundreds of aged care facilities.
This tool has been essential in increasing public awareness of the crisis in aged care. It helped make aged care a key election issue and played a role in legislating the increase in care time minutes.
Now, with Safe Staffing reports, we’re helping you hold employers accountable for poor practices—driving better conditions, better staffing, and better aged care.
Regularly report by creating an account

To make the process easier, create an account and pre-fill your details. This way, you can quickly submit reports without having to re-enter your information each time.
Reporting daily is essential to highlight the reality of aged care at your facility and ensure that employers meet the necessary standards.
