UWU’s submission to the Productivity Commission: 5 Pillars Inquiry calls for:
- Productivity gains to be shared with workers through better wages, conditions, and leisure time.
- Reforms to improve the tax system by closing loopholes that currently allow corporations to avoid paying their fair share.
- Direct investment in paid, accessible workplace training.
- Regulation to ensure workers are included in and consulted on the development and deployment of new technologies, including AI.
- Care sector reforms that prioritise people – placing the needs of older Australians, people with disabilities, children, and the workers who support them above provider convenience or cost-cutting.
