{"id":9835,"date":"2020-04-29T16:53:22","date_gmt":"2020-04-29T06:53:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/development.uwu.org.au\/staging\/?p=9835"},"modified":"2025-07-28T15:30:47","modified_gmt":"2025-07-28T05:30:47","slug":"united-workers-union-welcomes-covid-19-hygiene-training","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/development.uwu.org.au\/staging\/archive\/united-workers-union-welcomes-covid-19-hygiene-training\/","title":{"rendered":"United Workers Union welcomes COVID-19 hygiene training"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>MEDIA RELEASE<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 1\">\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<p><strong>United Workers Union welcomes COVID-19 hygiene training <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>United Workers Union, the Union for hospitality workers, has today welcomed the announcement of training for hospitality workers and businesses to ensure venues are safe for workers and members of the public as the State looks to life after COVID-19.<\/p>\n<p>Carolyn Smith, United Workers Union State Secretary, said the hospitality sector had been hit really hard over the past few months.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHospitality workers have had their jobs and hours vanish overnight with many not eligible for the Morrison Liberal Government\u2019s JobKeeper support given the high levels of casual and visa workers in the sector.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese workers want to get back to work, but they want to get it right to keep themselves and the public safe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ms Smith said the Union was ready to work with Government and Employer Groups to get the best outcome for workers and West Australians.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWestern Australians should be really proud that we are even having this discussion when we look around the world.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHowever if we rush this like some countries are proposing, we risk another shutdown and more importantly, a lot of lives.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHospitality workers need to know what their rights and responsibilities are as we try to re-open businesses.
