We do this \u2013 without fail \u2013 each year. Our members share their stories of work and home life so that the FWC has a first-hand picture of what it\u2019s like to be a worker in the industries we cover. This year\u2019s submission consists of 28 pages of research and member testimonials. When your worksite is unionised, there\u2019s usually an enterprise bargaining agreement (EBA) that ensures, among other things, that your pay rate is above the award. Many current UWU members first joined during an EBA negotiation. We\u2019ll go into why it\u2019s important to get involved in your EBA next month, so stay tuned. It pays \u2013 literally \u2013 to be vigilant when it comes to your wages. Some employers make mistakes or are ignorant, while others just do the wrong thing and think they can get away with it.<\/p><p>UWU organisers in Victoria recently identified numerous breaches of the rules at schools that employed cleaners through Serco.\u202f\u202fCleaners\u2019 shifts are meant to be at least 4 hours when they\u2019re required to clean an area over 5000 square metres. Unfortunately, this isn\u2019t what happened.<\/p><p>When approached, Serco admitted to \u2018inadvertent errors\u2019 and have now repaid the lost wages. UWU organisers deal with these types of claims regularly. Here\u2019s a list of some basic things you can check on your pay slip to see if you\u2019re being paid correctly.<\/p><ul><li>Hourly rate\u202f(and pay level if listed)<\/li><li>Allowances\u202f\u2013 for meals and breaks<\/li><li>Casual or shift loading\u202f<\/li><li>Annual leave loading\u202f<\/li><li>Super\u202fpayments<\/li><\/ul><p>If there\u2019s information missing on your pay slip, it\u2019s a red flag. It&#8217;s the first place to check whether you\u2019re being paid properly. Make sure you contact UWU if you spot an issue. UWU, along with other union affiliates, campaigned for an increase to the superannuation guarantee that kicks in this July. Many workplace agreements include training opportunities as a way to encourage and support career advancement. Many studies and surveys have shown that <a href=\"https:\/\/theconversation.com\/why-union-members-earn-higher-wages-than-their-non-union-colleagues-93122\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener
