The tabling of the Royal Commission into Crown Perth today has been welcomed by the United Workers Union (UWU) as an indication that the security of 4000 casino jobs is guaranteed.<\/p>\n
UWU, which represents workers including bar, hotel and restaurant staff, cleaners, security, and dealers across the Crown complex, has said workers will be relieved that their jobs are safe for the near future. However, the union is keen to ensure that any regulatory and governance changes are made in consultation with workers and the union.<\/p>\n
UWU casino director Dario Mujkic said casino workers had a valuable contribution to make to the future of the Perth casino.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis uncertainty around the casino\u2019s licence was a huge concern to workers who have already done it tough throughout this pandemic and who are blameless in this whole ordeal,\u201d Mr Mujkic said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is clear the current regulation regime has fallen short, but we now have an opportunity to make sure the Perth casino is safe and sustainable for workers, patrons and the wider community.<\/p>\n
\u201cBetter industry regulation and improved governance at Crown must also include embedding the voice of workers in governance and regulatory forums.<\/p>\n
\u201cSome of our members have worked at the casino for well over a decade and they have a unique insight and a perspective that will help ensure a safer, more secure venue for all.\u201d<\/p>\n
