{"id":35764,"date":"2021-11-30T07:30:15","date_gmt":"2021-11-29T20:30:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/development.uwu.org.au\/staging\/?p=35764"},"modified":"2025-07-28T16:05:32","modified_gmt":"2025-07-28T06:05:32","slug":"regional-victorian-dairy-workers-secure-historic-pay-deal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/development.uwu.org.au\/staging\/archive\/regional-victorian-dairy-workers-secure-historic-pay-deal\/","title":{"rendered":"REGIONAL VICTORIAN DAIRY WORKERS\u00a0SECURE HISTORIC PAY DEAL"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\">Following tight pay negotiations, workers planning industrial action at Fonterra and Saputo dairy processing plants across Victoria have secured historic pay deals.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Workers at Fonterra owned Stanhope, Darnum and two dairy plants in Cobden, secured a historic deal including:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">All shift workers receive a paid meal break, securing approximately $110 a week to shift workers take home pay.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Protection for future workers\u2019 wages and conditions, by including a commitment for Fonterra to consult with the local community if a plant is likely to be closed.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Paid domestic violence and mental health leave.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Improved shift allowance.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Improved casual conversion clauses.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">A commitment to deal with the effects of heat and cold in the workplace.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">A commitment to environmental sustainability.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">At Saputo in Allansford, workers have been fighting for pay parity with the multi-site union agreements at other Saputo sites. Allansford workers earn up to $6 less per hour than those covered under the multi-site agreement.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Saputo\u2019s in-principle agreement sees workers win pay parity including:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">3.5% pay rise, aligning wages to achieve same work, same pay with workers no longer doing the same jobs on different rates of pay.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">10 days of paid leave to attend emergency service volunteer duties.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Improved casual conversion clause.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">A commitment to deal with the effects of heat and cold in the workplace.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Improved Union rights.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cThese improved offers come at the eleventh hour as more than 560 union members across the five sites were preparing to take industrial action tomorrow,\u201d said United Workers Union Dairy Coordinator Neil Smith.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cWe know good, secure dairy jobs are essential to our regional communities.
