{"id":2936,"date":"2019-11-14T12:34:25","date_gmt":"2019-11-14T01:34:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/development.uwu.org.au\/staging\/?p=2936"},"modified":"2025-07-28T13:26:56","modified_gmt":"2025-07-28T03:26:56","slug":"racism-and-bullying-festers-at-youfoodz-brisbane-plant","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/development.uwu.org.au\/staging\/archive\/racism-and-bullying-festers-at-youfoodz-brisbane-plant\/","title":{"rendered":"Racism and bullying festers at Youfoodz Brisbane plant"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>MEDIA RELEASE<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 1\">\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Racism and bullying festers at Youfoodz Brisbane plant<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Brisbane based meal delivery business, Youfoodz, is using racial tactics to divide employees and keep migrant workers vulnerable says the United Workers Union (UWU).<\/p>\n<p>United Workers Union food &amp; beverage spokesperson Imogen Beynon says last week\u2019s racist video scandal is far from an isolated incident for the business, who has turned a blind eye to racially motivated attacks and systemic bullying and has allowed harassment to flourish amongst their mainly migrant workforce.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLike many migrant workers, Youfoodz workers have come to Australia to build a good life. Instead, what they found at Youfoodz is a culture of bullying, racism and extreme wage theft,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRather than addressing the worksite\u2019s culture of racism and bullying, the company is using it to drive productivity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor example, while many workers get access to 10-minute breaks, Punjabi workers are often told by their supervisors that they can\u2019t take rest breaks and if they do, they risk having their shifts cut.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen Punjabi workers raised this issue with the company\u2019s HR manager, their shifts were subsequently cut to four hours in length to avoid having to give them 10-minute breaks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ms Beynon said there were also accounts of culturally motivated violence against Youfoodz employees.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne attack has left an employee feeling very unsafe at work, while the perpetrator has faced no disciplinary action and still remains at work.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe bullying, harassment and racism these vulnerable migrant workers are copping at Youfoodz is deplorable.
