{"id":10295,"date":"2020-05-11T07:09:55","date_gmt":"2020-05-10T21:09:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/development.uwu.org.au\/staging\/?p=10295"},"modified":"2025-07-28T15:31:44","modified_gmt":"2025-07-28T05:31:44","slug":"south-australian-hospitality-workers-left-out-of-jobkeeper","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/development.uwu.org.au\/staging\/archive\/south-australian-hospitality-workers-left-out-of-jobkeeper\/","title":{"rendered":"South Australian hospitality workers left out of JobKeeper"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>MEDIA RELEASE<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 1\">\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<p><strong>South Australian hospitality workers left out of JobKeeper<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>United Workers Union is calling on the South Australian Government to review its decision on JobKeeper eligibility.<\/p>\n<p>As it stands the wage subsidy leaves behind around 1000 South Australian Government enterprise workers who have been stood down, 850 of these are from Adelaide Venue Management.*<\/p>\n<p>These workers classified as \u2018South Australian public corporation employees\u2019 are ineligible for the JobKeeper wage subsidy program introduced under the Commonwealth\u2019s coronavirus response.<\/p>\n<p>United Workers Union spokesperson Godfrey Moase said: \u201cNo worker should be left behind, and yet the South Australian Government is actively choosing to inflict suffering on government enterprise hospitality workers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Last week, on May 6, Victoria&#8217;s Daniel Andrews-led government announced the introduction of a $1,500 per fortnight wage subsidy for those working in venue management.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnited Workers Union calls on Premier Steven Marshall to do the same and act immediately to pay a JobKeeper subsidy to government enterprise workers,\u201d Mr Moase said.<\/p>\n<p>United Workers Union members working at the Adelaide Convention Centre, who prefer to remain anonymous, have commented:<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cIf\u00a0government enterprise workers in Victoria are now eligible for JobKeeper why doesn\u2019t the SA government step up and do the same?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cHospitality workers are being thrown on the scrap heap by the SA government in this time of need just because of a classification. We work hard, pay our taxes.
