{"id":10136,"date":"2020-05-06T16:00:59","date_gmt":"2020-05-06T06:00:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/development.uwu.org.au\/staging\/?p=10136"},"modified":"2025-07-28T15:31:45","modified_gmt":"2025-07-28T05:31:45","slug":"treasurer-attacks-health-care-workers-during-covid-19-crisis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/development.uwu.org.au\/staging\/archive\/treasurer-attacks-health-care-workers-during-covid-19-crisis\/","title":{"rendered":"SA Treasurer attacks health care workers during COVID-19 crisis"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>MEDIA RELEASE<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 1\">\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<p><strong>Treasurer attacks health care workers during COVID-19 crisis<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Public health workers at the frontline of the COVID-19 pandemic are set to lose job security and working conditions, even as they work to stop the spread in South Australia.<\/p>\n<p>United Workers Union members are delivering meals to sick people, pushing beds to ICUs, sterilising equipment and theatres for surgery, and doing everything they can to stop the spread of this pandemic while maintaining effective health services for South Australians.<\/p>\n<p>United Workers Union \u2013 the union for health care workers is calling out Treasurer Rob Lucas for attempting to slash the working conditions of vital health workers at a time when they\u2019re needed most.<\/p>\n<p>In light of the current crisis the public health system is facing, workers volunteered to roll over their current workplace agreement, keeping the status quo so that everyone can focus on delivering services and keeping the community safe.<\/p>\n<p>Lucas and the Liberal Government have refused to roll over the current agreement in favour of attacking workers\u2019 current conditions.<\/p>\n<p>United Workers Union Public Sector Coordinator Paul Blackmore said the Treasurer is attempting to slash working conditions for frontline health care staff.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is outrageous. Health workers are trying to do the right thing and take pressure off SA Health during this crisis.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInstead, Rob Lucas is insisting that workers must negotiate for their working conditions, and he is telling them that those working conditions will be taken away.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery day health workers put themselves at risk by caring for patients with COVID-19.
