When\u00a0you\u2019re\u00a0asked to work outside of your workplace\u2019s ordinary hours, or\u00a0more than\u00a0the ordinary hours allowed on a day or a shift, this can attract overtime rates.<\/p><p><strong>Employers must consult\u00a0around changes to hours<\/strong><br \/>Employers\u00a0are required to\u00a0consult\u00a0workers before they\u00a0change your regular roster or ordinary hours of work, but we know that\u00a0doesn\u2019t\u00a0always happen.<\/p><p><strong>Consultation process\u00a0can be enforced\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>Employers must:<\/p><ul><li>Consult workers before the change takes effect.<\/li><li>Tell you how they propose to change your regular roster or ordinary hours of work, including when the change is proposed to begin.<\/li><li>Invite you to provide your views about the proposed change.<\/li><li>Consider workers\u2019 views about the change in their decision-making process.If this\u00a0hasn\u2019t\u00a0happened,\u00a0then as union members we can come together to enforce\u00a0these\u00a0rights.<p><strong>Different roles\u00a0have different rules.\u00a0Here\u2019s\u00a0how to find yours\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>Find your\u202f<a class=\"visible-link\" href=\"https:\/\/services.fairwork.gov.au\/find-my-award\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">modern award<\/a>\u202for\u202f<a class=\"visible-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fwc.gov.au\/agreements-awards\/enterprise-agreements\/find-enterprise-agreement\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">enterprise agreement<\/a>\u202fon\u202f<a class=\"visible-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fwc.gov.au\/agreements-and-awards\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">the Fair Work Commission website<\/a>.\u00a0Note:\u00a0For public sector employees this might be on your state Industrial Relations Commission website.<\/p><p>Your modern award or enterprise agreement should say how your employer must consult you about changes to your regular roster or ordinary hours of work.<\/p><\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-d797a17 sc_fly_static elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"d797a17\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h4 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">What you can do<\/h4>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-99267d6 sc_fly_static elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"99267d6\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<ul><li>Talk to your union delegate, if you have one, or contact us.<\/li><li>Chat to trusted workmates to see if they are facing the same problem. It\u2019s likely that you\u2019re not the only one.<\/li><li>Together, you can bring your concerns to your boss. This could be in a joint meeting or through a letter signed by all of you. No one has to do this alone.
